ATTORNEY PROFILE

Thomas A. Morrissey was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in the western suburb of Oak Park, where in 1977 he was graduated from Fenwick High School. In 1981, he was graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with Magna Cum Laude honors and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. While at Marquette, Mr. Morrissey was the recipient of the Charles E. (Chick) Evans Scholarship.

Mr. Morrissey in 1985 earned his Juris Doctor from De Paul University College of Law in Chicago. After graduation, Mr. Morrissey went to work for the Illinois Attorney General where he successfully defended state employees in civil cases in both State and Federal courts. Upon leaving there, Mr. Morrissey went to work for a large Chicago law firm that specialized in representing defendants in medical malpractice, product liability and general negligence cases. In representing corporations and hospitals, Mr. Morrissey learned the methods by which defendants and their insurers defend cases brought by injured parties.

In 1998, Mr. Morrissey decided he wanted to represent injured parties, and joined a prominent personal injury law firm. Mr. Morrissey was lead trial counsel in a case representing a young man who suffered severe leg injuries when he was struck by a load of steel pilings while working on renovation of the CTA’s Green Line. That case was settled in the midst of trial for $800,000.

Additionally, Mr. Morrissey represented a union painter who fell into a three-foot-deep pit, dug to hold a printing press, that was not properly barricaded. The paintere suffered multiple injuries that required, among other treatment, hip replacement surgery. Despite the fact that he received a release allowing him to return to work, Mr. Morrissey was able to obtain a jury verdict in the amount of $3.45 million dollars on the injured worker’s behalf.

Since starting his own practice in 2002, Mr. Morrissey has concentrated primarily on representing individuals in personal injury and worker’s compensation matters. The Law Offices of Thomas A. Morrissey have earned for its clients millions of dollars in verdicts and settlements over the years by offering the same commitment, energy and integrity in each matter it undertakes.

In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Morrissey is a member of a number of legal organizations, including the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Illinois Worker’s Compensation Bar Association. Mr. Morrissey also is active in a number of charitable and community organizations, including Catholic Charities, where he sits on its Board of Advisors. Mr. Morrissey also is active in the Evans Scholarship Foundation, the same organization whose generosity allowed him to attend college.
